Graphic Design Tools: Inkscape

cost:
$50

Want to strengthen up your graphic design skills and enhance your experience in the fab lab? Participants will receive an overview of vector graphic design using Inkscape, including how to make objects, trace images, and create design files that could be used on our digital fabrication tools. Inkscape is a free, open-source competitor to Illustrator. This class will teach students the skills needed to develop vector graphics for the Laser Cutter and Rolland Desktop Vinyl Cutter machine as the Labs. Designs can also be used for professional printing, web design, and computer graphics. Being able to use computers to design real life objects has a lot of advantages, and is a necessary skill to have for digital fabrication.

There are no supplies needed for this course. The lab has a computer lab of iMacs and Linux computers for students to use. It is recommended that you bring your own laptop if you can, but it is not a requirement to take the course. The software we use in our fab lab is Inkscape, if you want to get a head start, download it and check it out before class.
